South Tampa

South Tampa resides on the beautiful Interbay Peninsula surrounded by Hillsborough Bay to the East, Old Tampa Bay to the West and Tampa Bay to the South with Kennedy Boulevard serving as the northern boundary.  After Fort Brooke was established in 1823 (present day downtown Tampa), this area to the south was primarily used as farm and cattle land.  Fortunately, a multitude of entrepreneurial developers envisioned this desirable area as luxury communities.  With the extension of the street car line and electricity to the area by Consumers Electric Light and Street Railway Company (later to become TECO), this area became ripe for growth during the real estate boom of the late 1910’s and 1920’s.  After the strong, initial post-WWI growth, South Tampa’s development dropped to a continuous, albeit slower pace.  With generations of families living, working and contributing to the area, South Tampa has become the premiere neighborhood it is today.
